Brief NASCAR Overview

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) was founded in 1948 by William France. The competition initially began with three divisions but has since expanded to multiple series and races held worldwide. However, the three National series remain the most popular among NASCAR fans. NASCAR Cup Series: The Cup Series is the highest level of NASCAR racing and one of the most prestigious motorsport events of the last several decades. A standard Cup Series season is split into two parts. The first features 26 races, and the best 16 drivers, based on the number of laps led and final finishes, qualify for the 10-race playoffs.

The NASCAR playoffs are contested over four rounds, with four drivers eliminated after each. In the final race, Championship 4, the last four competitors start the race with a reset and equal points. The best driver in that final stage becomes the NASCAR Cup Series Champion. You can make predictions on every regular-season and playoff race at Sportzino for free.

The Cup Series features some of the sport's most iconic tracks and races. The Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway draw millions of fans every year. The three are called the Crown Jewels of NASCAR racing, and winning at all three in a season is called a Grand Slam. Richard Petty, Jimmie Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt are the most successful drivers in the competition's 75-year history, with seven championships each.

NASCAR Xfinity Series: The Xfinity Series is second-tier to the NASCAR Cup Series and features less advanced cars, shorter races, and fewer mainstream drivers. Xfinity races usually serve as a support event to the top-tier competition, with races held a day before the main event on the same track.

The series also uses the playoff format, with drivers qualifying after 26 regular-season races. However, the Xfinity playoffs feature only three rounds and 12 initial participants. Eight are eliminated in the early two rounds, with the last four competing in the Xfinity Series Drivers' Championship 4. As many as 31 drivers have so far won the prestigious title, and nine of them have done it twice.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series: The Craftsman Truck Series can be described as third-tier and is the youngest of all three National series. It held its first season in 1995 and remains the only NASCAR series to use pickup trucks for its races.

In 2016, NASCAR introduced playoffs for the Truck Series, with eight players initially qualifying. The number increased to ten in 2020, but it maintained its three-round format. Two drivers are eliminated in the first round and four in the next. The last four compete for the Championship at Phoenix Raceway in Arizona. Ron Hornaday Jr.'s four championships make him the most successful driver in the Series' history.

  • Race winner: As the name implies, it simply involves predicting who'll come out on top in a race. With most races featuring 40+ players, winner predictions can be truly fun and rewarding.
  • Pole position: Before each NASCAR race, drivers battle for pole position in a qualifying session. They take solo laps on empty tracks to see who can finish the fastest. You can predict who will have the best lap time and clinch the coveted first starting spot.
  • Head-to-head picks: H2H picks pit two drivers against each other, and you predict who will record a higher finish of the two. It doesn't matter whether the driver wins the race or not; as long as he finishes ahead of the other driver, you win.
  • Podium finish: You can predict the three drivers who'll reach the podium or even which place among the top three a specific driver will take. There are also NASCAR race odds for top five and top ten finishes at Sportzino.
  • Fastest lap time: This involves backing a driver to have the fastest lap time in the race. The lap can come at any time, but as long as it is your predicted driver, you win.
  • Outright picks: These are predictions you make long before the race or the Series begins. You could back your favorite driver to win the Xfinity Championship before the season starts or predict the podium finishers for the 2024 Southern 500.

Top NASCAR Prediction Tips

You'll need to put in some effort to become an expert in making NASCAR predictions. Here are a couple of tips to help you make better picks.

  • Do your research: We can't emphasize this enough. When you consider the high number of drivers in a standard race, your gut feeling alone might not be sufficient. Some drivers perform better on certain tracks, while others are affected by the weather. Even car modifications and changes in team members might influence performances Essentially, the more you know, the better your picks.
  • Back drivers in form: Momentum is a key factor in NASCAR races, and it is very common for drivers to go on lengthy winning streaks. Finding and backing these drivers can be truly rewarding.
  • Consider motivated drivers: Competitors with more to lose tend to put more effort into their races, which usually leads to better results. So, a driver fighting for a playoff spot during the final races will obviously be more committed and focused. Also, be cautious about Cup drivers in the Xfinity Series, as their goals might differ. Most see it as a warm-up and are not truly invested in winning.
