2024 French Open Favorites

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz has been in the top three of the ATP rankings since September 2022, and the young prodigy hasn’t slowed down since. He has been fluctuating inside the top three since then, and the 21-year-old has a promising future ahead of him. The French Open is the only major tournament to be held on clay, and Alcaraz has excelled on this surface. His 69-17 record on clay is among his best surfaces, as the Spaniard is a deserving favorite at the 2024 French Open. After several quarter-final eliminations in recent tournaments, Alcaraz will look to use the surface to his advantage. Like his idol Rafael Nadal, he is a clay court specialist who will look to win his first career French Open. The +170 odds aren’t the longest, but he is still a great prediction to make at this year’s Roland-Garros.

Pick: Carlos Alcaraz +170

Novak Djokovic +230

Novak Djokovic is the only player in his thirties inside the top 9 of the ATP rankings, as the number one has refused to slow down with age. The 36 year old has already put together arguably the greatest tennis career of all time, and he will look to cement that fact even further with a win in the twilight of his career. It’s never a bad prediction to pick the world’s greatest tennis player.

Despite winning two of his last three tournaments in France, Djokovic still has an uphill battle to lift another French Open. His 80.3% win percentage on clay is the lowest among the three surfaces, but he has shown the ability to overcome that and still put up wins. However, in this tournament, we will have to look in other directions for our predictions. Djokovic may have been able to use his technique and athleticism to offset the surface, but as he fades into retirement, that will be harder to overcome. It’s hard to turn down Djokovic at these odds, but we will be doing it regardless.

Pick: Pass

Jannik Skinner +300

Jannik Skinner is second behind Djokovic in the rankings and will look to keep his 2024 win streak going at this year’s French Open. He is 28-2 in 2024, with an impressive 22-1 record on hard surfaces. He’s fresh off his Grand Slam win at the 2024 Australian Open, and the budding Italian will be confident he can make it 2/2 in 2024. However, his showing on clay makes this an uphill battle. The surface cannot be ignored when making tennis predictions, and this is one where Skinner has struggled. Additionally, he was forced to withdraw at his last tournament due to injury, and he may try to play for a nagging ailment at this year’s event. The +300 odds aren’t long enough to warrant a prediction on Skinner, and we will look deeper down the list to find value.

Pick: Pass

Rafael Nadal +620

It’s rare to find Nadal with +620 odds on a clay surface, and this is absolutely one you cannot miss out on. Nadal already has 92 titles in his career, including 22 Grand Slam wins.  The clay surface is Nadal’s specialty, and he is the only other player of the four favorites aside from Alcaraz to prefer this surface. While Nadal may be dealing with injuries, these +620 odds will look like a gift if he can stay healthy. Fourteen of his 22 Grand Slam wins have been at the French Open. His 112-3 record at the event is phenomenal, and even though he is past his prime, he still has a chance to win this championship.

Pick: Rafael Nadal +620

Who is Predicted to Win the French Open 2024?

Carlos Alcaraz is predicted to win the French Open in 2024. The 21-year-old Spanish tennis player sits third in the ATP tennis rankings and specializes on clay surfaces. There is no doubt Alcaraz is the favorite, as with a wide open field, he will be confident against whoever is standing across the court from him.
