Best NFL Week 12 Matchups

Detroit Lions at Indianapolis Colts

  • Spread: Lions -7 (-115)
  • Moneyline: Lions -350/Colts +250
  • Over/Under: 50.5
  • Time: Sunday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Last week, we highlighted Detroit’s 12.5-point edge over the Jaguars and explained why it was ripe for exploitation. The Lions ended up winning by 46 points, increasing their average margin of victory to 15.9 and only further emphasizing how dominant they are and how they can demolish lesser teams.

Now, to the Colts’ credit, they’re hardly as lost as their division counterparts, who’ve been crushed by Detroit in Tennessee and Jacksonville. They’re well coached, remain motivated, and do have talent. That said, with an average scoring margin of -1.3, they’re still getting too much credit against this Lions team.

Detroit’s far and away the No. 1 team in total DVOA and only furthered its status as such during Sunday’s domination over the Jags. The Colts, meanwhile, are just 21st and have beaten just one good time all year — way back in Week 4 against the Steelers. With Anthony Richardson’s mercurial play to be accounted for now, it’s foolish to count on the Colts to stay within one score against this Lions team.

Pick: Lions -7 (-115)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Giants

  • Spread: Buccaneers -5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Buccaneers -240/Giants +180
  • Over/Under: 42.0
  • Time: Sunday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Around this time in every season, a wave of teams appears ready to crumble at the slightest resistance. Enter the 2024 New York Giants. After a crushing overtime loss in Europe preceded their bye week, they’ll head out of the break with Tommy Devito under center and renewed rumors around head coach Brian Daboll’s job security.

That, in itself, is no recipe for competitiveness. That’s before popping the hood on this Giants team and seeing just how ugly the performances have been. This team lost to the Panthers and Bryce Young, ranks 25th in total DVOA, and is 26th in scoring margin at -6.6.

Now, this fragile and talentless New York team faces Baker Mayfield and a Bucs team fighting for their lives. After some tough losses, Tampa Bay is 4-6 and desperately needs wins to remain in the Wild Card hunt. It’ll pick them up, especially in spots like this, simply because they’ve played better than their record.

Though a madly depleted offense hasn’t helped, Mayfield has dragged the Bucs to respectability. Tampa Bay exits its bye above average in total DVOA, ranked 15th in the league, and has a positive scoring margin at +1.3.

These teams are like two trains passing in the night. The Giants, with Devito as conductor, are headed for the top of the draft board and, hopefully, new hope in 2025. The Bucs, meanwhile, will spend the next two months fighting for a playoff spot and swatting aside inferior opponents like the Giants.

Pick: Buccaneers -5 (-110)

Denver Broncos at Las Vegas Raiders

  • Spread: Broncos -5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Broncos -250/Raiders +190
  • Over/Under: 41.0
  • Time: Sunday, November 24 at 4:00 p.m. ET

The Broncos confirmed their playoff-contender bona fides on Sunday, demolishing the NFC South-leading Falcons. Though Denver has its flaws, it appears to have settled in as an above-average team with a great head coach and feisty quarterback play from Bo Nix.

The Broncos’ roll over victory against Atlanta vaulted them to the top 10 in scoring margin, with a legitimately strong mark of +4.7. That, impressively, is only 0.2 off the formerly undefeated Chiefs and above teams like the Packers and 49ers. Denver’s in a good place to push for a playoff spot, but it wouldn’t even need to be in this spot.

The Raiders are definitively horrible. Antonio Pierce is one of the most overmatched, underprepared head coaches in recent NFL history. His lack of experience has been nowhere more apparent than at quarterback, where he has bounced from Gardner Minshew to Aiden O’Connell to Desmond Ridder and back to Minshew.

That laughable management has seen Minshew crater into some of the worst play of his career, and the roster, as a result, has followed suit. Las Vegas has rarely been competitive since the season’s first month and is currently on a six-game losing streak.

The Raiders’ six-game skid has seen them lose by an average of 13.1 points. Tellingly, the loss that started this current streak came at the hands of the Broncos, and it wasn’t close, with Denver winning by 16 points. Now, against an improved Broncos team, expect another rout at the hands of Sean Payton’s team.

Pick: Broncos -5 (-110)
