A deeply strange season for the Milwaukee Bucks continued into 2025 but has, potentially, begun to stabilize. The Bucks’ early season struck panic in the hearts of fans, with disastrous play and even worse messaging from Giannis and company making it seem like they were barreling toward the worst case scenario. They did, however, pull up enough to ascend in the Eastern Conference and, along the way, put together an impressive NBA Cup run that ended in triumph.
That good feeling and victory didn’t carry back to regular season play, as Milwaukee began 2025 with a pair of embarrassing losses to the tanking Brooklyn Nets and Portland Trail Blazers. But recent play seems to suggest greater stability, as the Bucks have gone 7-1 in the eight games since.
Similarly, the Clippers appear to be discovering some consistency in their 2024-25 NBA season. The Clippers have secured a 4-1 record in their last five games and are establishing a consistent rhythm between their usual style of play and the frequent introduction of Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers currently rank fourth in the league in defensive rating and mesh great individual defenders with a scheme that has sustained year over year.
Despite the notion it was a match made in heaven, and looking that way on paper, the Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo pick-and-roll game has never developed. Milwaukee remains a wildly isolation-heavy team. It averages 0.599 assists per made field goal, a mark that has it in the bottom five in the entire league.
With a typically gritty, synchronized defensive effort, the Clippers can lessen the effectiveness of Milwaukee’s offense and, as a result, keep the game tight and cover against a superior opponent.
