A Sunday slate that underwhelmed on paper ended up delivering a string of high-drama games in Week 14, culminating in a pair of wild finishes in Los Angeles and Kansas City. With the schedule filling up, it’s time to turn the page to the NFL Week 15 matchups.
With no more bye weeks and a double-header on Monday night, we’re set for a wildly busy week in the NFL. With just a few more weeks until the postseason, the intensity will be cranked up as teams fight for seeding.

Bengals at Titans

Rarely do we see seasons quite like the Cincinnati Bengals’ doomed 2024 campaign. The Bengals have the foundation of a good team, have retained the core of a former AFC contender, and are getting an MVP-caliber season from Joe Burrow.
Yet, the Bengals are multiple games below .500 and clinging to life in the AFC’s wild-card picture. Ahead of their Week 14 matchup with the Cowboys, the Bengals were 18th in total DVOA—and in possession of a positive mark in that advanced metric—and just slightly negative in scoring margin, at -0.4, thanks to a defense that’s been downright awful.
At worst, Cincinnati is a good-bad team with an offense capable of scoring with anyone. Despite its dreadful defense, it is in a good position to win comfortably against the Titans. While the Bengals can find solace in being a “good-bad team,” the Titans are simply downright bad. Tennessee is 29th in total DVOA, with a scoring margin of -8.8.
We’ve already seen the Titans blown away by good teams this year. Though the Bengals aren’t a good team per se, they can count on an elite quarterback flanked by two outstanding wideouts. With the ability to score at will against bad defenses, they can run away in Tennessee.

Buccaneers at Chargers

As the Chargers have proven consistently since their bye week and did again in a brutal last-second loss to the Chiefs in Week 14, they’re a genuinely good team. Greg Roman’s often archaic play-calling aside, the Bolts combine elite quarterback play with a strong running game and an outstanding defense.
That’s the bones of a good team, and L.A. has proven to be exactly that. It’s in the top 10 in both total DVOA and average scoring margin, and if it weren’t for the Chiefs, it would be at the top of a competitive division.
For their part, the Bucs have been incredibly feisty in 2024 but have also been decimated by injuries. Baker Mayfield and the Bucs proved in big-time spots, like in prime-time against Kansas City, that they can hang with any opponent—but they themselves are a fairly middle-of-the-road outfit.
In Sofi on Sunday, we can expect a highly competitive, intriguing game, and this one comes down to an odds play. For the Chargers to give up only 2.5 points at home is generous for Tampa, and it’s a great spot to simply lean toward the Bolts straight up for extra insurance.

Bears at Vikings

Last Sunday, during the main Week 14 slate, we saw two ships go in starkly different directions. The Bears, led by interim head coach Thomas Brown, saw the bottom fall out on a feisty defense and an offense that had previously shown improvements.
Chicago looked completely, utterly broken against an opponent that was there for the taking. The hollow look of the Bears’ performance requires a re-assessment of where they stand. Every year, we see a team completely let go of the rope after a head coach is fired. It would appear, with Brown overmatched in the big chair, Chicago’s that team this year.
On the other hand, the Vikings and Sam Darnold looked like NFC contenders who are on the other side of a mid-season slump. After a couple of mid-fall hiccups, the Vikes stormed back in incredible fashion on Sunday. In his return, Minnesota crushed the Falcons and Kirk Cousins, with the home team taking a 42-21 win.
Minnesota’s resurgence re-emphasizes what it looked to be earlier in the season. It’s a team with an elite defense, led by a brilliant defensive mind, and a highly competent offense capable of matching any opponent.
At home, against a lost Bears team, expect the Vikings to win by more than a touchdown against a divisional foe.
