The New England Patriots took an expected downturn when franchise quarterback Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they have been steadily declining since that day. They selected quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall selection last year and can now use their 4th overall pick to get him some help on the offensive side of the ball. New head coach Mike Vrabel will look to bring this team back into the playoffs, and some home run selections at the 2025 NFL draft could do exactly that.

New England Patriots Needs and Draft Strategy
Offensive Line:
As we saw with the Eagles’ recent Super Bowl victory, the offensive line position is prioritized in the modern-day NFL. The New England Patriots are in desperate need of an elite lineman who can protect Drake Maye from taking unnecessary hits in the pocket. There are several elite offensive linemen available in the 2025 NFL draft, and there is a very high likelihood the Patriots’ fourth overall pick will be used on this position if it doesn’t get traded.
Wide Receiver:
Drake Maye has the worst skill position group with him in New England, and an elite wide receiver would go a long way in altering this franchise. Tight end Hunter Henry led the team with 674 yards, good for only 53rd in the NFL. DeMario Douglas showed flashes of brilliance, but he has a ceiling of a low-end WR2 on any playoff team. If Maye is the future of this franchise, he needs targets that can haul in his accurate throws.
Edge Rusher:
The edge rusher position is often the most impactful on the defensive side of the ball, and the Patriots will likely use one of their first five selections for this position. Abdul Carter is unlikely to be available when the Patriots draft, but several options are available that would seamlessly fit into their current defensive line.
How many picks do the New England Patriots have in the 2025 Draft?
The New England Patriots have 8 draft picks in the 2025 NFL draft. The fourth overall selection highlights their collection of draft picks, which they may opt to trade to collect additional draft capital.
Their selections this year are as follows:
- 1st Round: 4th Overall
- 2nd Round: 38th Overall
- 3rd Round: 69th Overall
- 3rd Round: 77th Overall
- 4th Round: 105th Overall
- 5th Round: 145th Overall
- 7th Round: 222nd Overall
- 7th Round: 240th Overall
The New England Patriots were relatively quiet in the trade market this season, making only one significant trade that altered their draft capital. In the summer of 2024, they traded Matt Judon to the Atlanta Falcons and received a third-round pick in return. Four selections inside the first 77 picks will help the Patriots rebuild their franchise, as several elite talents will head to Foxborough after the 2025 NFL draft.
Potential New England Patriots Draft Picks 2025

1st Round, 4th Overall: Will Campbell (Offensive Tackle, LSU)
Will Campbell is the best offensive lineman available this season and would be a great use of the New England Patriots’ valuable 4th overall pick. Trading this pick still appears to be the most likely outcome for the Patriots, but Campbell would still be an adequate use of their first round pick. Campbell played outside the offensive line for most of his college career but will move inside when drafted into the NFL. He is very well balanced, rarely gets beat, and is capable of leading the next generation of talents in New England. He can occasionally get beat when left on an island, but that will not be a problem on the interior of the Patriots offensive line.
2nd Round, 38th Overall: Elic Ayomanor (Wide Receiver, Stanford)
The Patriots will likely opt to grab an elite receiver with their second round pick, and Elic Ayomanor is a great candidate for the 38th overall selection. The Canadian receiver has breathtaking speed in bursts and can create separation down the field. His hands have been a problem with 12 drops over the last two years, but head coach Mike Vrabel will quickly get him up to speed in the NFL. He has the potential to be a great slot receiver, as his potential to rack up yards after the catch is like that of a few other players his age.
3rd Round, 77th Overall: Isiah Bond (Wide Receiver, Texas)
Several elite wide receivers are available outside of the first two rounds, and Isiah Bond would be a great fit in New England. The Patriots also have the 69th overall selection, but Bond will likely still be available at 77th. Bond has a similar build to Ayomanor, as he has the explosivity needed to create separation from his defenders. Once he has the ball in his hands, he has the speed and agility needed to tack on extra yards after the catch. His undersized frame will limit his ceiling in the NFL, but he will instantly elevate the Patriots’ offense upon his arrival.
