Arsenal vs Southampton Introduction
The 2024-25 Premier League campaign will end this weekend, and the South Coast of England will see a clash of two teams with sealed fates as Arsenal visits Southampton.
In a tight 1-0 win over Newcastle United last Sunday, Arsenal clinched a place in next season’s Champions League and second place in the Premier League.
Southampton, meanwhile, were sentenced to relegation weeks ago, with the only further jeopardy they faced avoided when they earned their 12th point of the season to avoid being the worst side in league history.

Arsenal vs Southampton Match Preview
In their last five matches, Arsenal stumbled but did enough to secure the places they sought after Liverpool clinched the title. The Gunners have taken eight points from a possible 15, with a loss in between a pair of wins and a pair of draws. Kai Havertz, who made his return from injury on Sunday, still leads the team in goals with nine on the season.
The last five games for Southampton have seen a banner return of two points from a possible 15. Yet, those two draws against West Ham and Man City were enough for them to go above Derby County in the record books. This toothless Saints side has been led by Paul Onuachu, who has scored four goals during the league campaign.
Arsenal vs Southampton Head-to-Head
The last 10 matches between Arsenal and Southampton have been fairly level despite the gulf in quality between the two sides. Dating back to November 2019, Arsenal boasts a record of four wins, four draws, and two losses against Southampton.
Arsenal vs Southampton Key Stats
Despite Arsenal’s long-time search for a striker, they created goals at a high level this season. They are third in the league with 67 goals scored, while Southampton are unsurprisingly bottom of the Premier League with 25 goals scored. Arsenal’s tremendous defensive record sees them with the fewest goals conceded on the year, at 33, while Southampton have allowed an astonishing 84.
Home hasn’t been kind to the Saints this season, with six of their 12 points earned at St. Mary’s Stadium — an average return of 0.33 per match. On the other hand, Arsenal has the third-most points away from North London this season, with 32 points, which is good for an average of 1.78 per road match.

Arsenal vs Southampton Predicting Tips
FT Result
While they avoided the humiliation of setting a new low for a Premier League points return, this Southampton team is arguably the worst in league history. They’re well and truly awful and have done a disservice to their supporters this year.
With plenty of outgoings expected this summer, they’ll likely be content to play out the string on the season, result be damned. There is no pride in this squad, which became evident early in the season. They haven’t shown up all season and won’t start now.
Arsenal is firmly in second with nothing to play for, and yet, a completely second-string squad could surely go down the coast and take three points. No matter which team manager Mikel Arteta lines up with on Sunday, his team will take all three points.
Pick: Arsenal moneyline (-300)
Both Teams To Score
With Arsenal in a great position to win against Southampton, the both teams to score pick comes down to whether or not Southampton will find the back of the net.
Arsenal’s defensive record this season has been tremendous, despite a string of injuries to their back four. The Gunners have conceded just an average of 0.89 goals per match, from an xGA of 0.91. Away from the Emirates Stadium, it has been similarly stellar, with an average of 0.88 goals allowed with an xGA mark of 1.08.
Southampton, for their part, haven’t threatened oppositions home or away. The Saints average 0.67 goals per game, with an xG of 0.86. It’s no better at home, with a per-match average of 0.66 goals and an xG of 0.92.
David Raya and Arsenal have one more clean sheet in them.
Pick: Both Teams to Score – No (-115)

Over/Under
With Southampton unlikely to score against Arsenal, the Over/Under on a goal line of 2.5 falls entirely on the Gunners’ shoulders. Despite a looming one-sided affair, I am expecting the Over.
Though Arsenal haven’t been a massively attacking team this season, with an average of 1.8 goals per match and an xG of 1.55, they’re a fluid side set to play with abandon. The past few weeks have seen a title challenge drift away, a semifinal in the Champions League, and then a resumed challenge for a Champions League place next season.
Tensions were high around North London, and Arsenal seemingly suffered for it. However, they have secured second place in Europe’s prestigious competition next season. Allowed to play free against a horrible team, I expect Arsenal to tear Southampton apart.
Pick: Over 2.5 (-180)
Score Prediction
After the analysis laid out in the moneyline, both teams to score, and Over/Under markets, we’re looking at a big win for Arsenal on Sunday. The first meeting between these sides, in early October in North London, saw Arsenal win 3-1 and they’ll better it on Sunday.
It’s a lofty prediction, but we are looking at a 4-0 win for Arsenal on Sunday. The freedom they’ll feel, after the tension of the last several weeks, will have such a brilliant effect on an already fluid team. For Arsenal’s part, they have scored four goals or more in eight games this season — including putting four past fellow relegation-bound teams in Ipswich Town and Leicester City.
Southampton, meanwhile, has conceded four or more goals in five matches. To end a terrible season, it’ll be made six matches.
Pick: 4-0 (+1,500)
