Bayer Leverkusen
Leverkusen is the most obvious choice for the favorites to win the Europa League. They have undergone a revolution under Xabi Alonso, which has seen them win the Bundesliga for the first time in their history. He’s done such an incredible job that Bayern Munich attempted to bring him in, and Liverpool want him to replace Klopp. He’s turned them both down currently, but that could change between now and the end of the season.
Leverkusen is undoubtedly the team to beat going into the final stretch, with a semi-final place almost guaranteed after their first-leg wins against West Ham. Of course, anything can happen in soccer, but Leverkusen is our top pick to win the Europa League.
Atalanta
Atalanta has been the shock contender for the last five years. After spending time between Serie A and Serie B in the 2000s, things changed when Gasperini took control. His love for attacking soccer goes against the traditional Italian way of playing, giving Atalanta unprecedented success. They regularly finish in the Champions League places and even made the CL quarter-finals in 2019/20.
They demolished Liverpool in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, so most people expect them to make it through to the next round. They aren’t favorites in the same way Leverkusen is, but they still have an excellent chance of winning their first major trophy since 1963.
Roma
Roma made the final last year, motivating them to try and go one better this season. However, after losing Mourinho it will be a challenge. De Rossi has done an excellent job so far, particularly after he had to replace a legendary manager. He takes his Roma side into the second leg with a one-goal lead.
If they can get through to the next round, they have an excellent opportunity to go all the way. However, they must get past some fantastic teams to claim the trophy.
Benfica
Benfica is an outside shout to win the UEFA Europa League 2024. They hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg against Marseille and have some fantastic players. However, they’re not as strong as the other three teams likely to make the semi-finals. You can’t count them out: David Neres, Angel Di Maria, and Marcos Leonardo are all match-winners in their own right, so they have the ability to take them all the way.
