College Football Week 4 Odds Analysis

#12 Utah at #14 Oklahoma State

  • Spread: Utah -1.5, Oklahoma State +1.5
  • Moneyline: Utah -125, Oklahoma State -105
  • Over/Under: 52 Points
  • Time: Saturday, September 21st, 4:00 PM EST

There are a total of four college football matchups this week featuring two ranked teams, and this may be the best one. Utah is a slight favorite on the NCAA football odds despite their road team status. Neither of these teams have ever made the college football playoffs before, and with the format being expanded to 12 teams this season, they both have a fantastic opportunity to do so. The winner of this game will vault into the top 10, while the loser will slide into the bottom portion of the rankings. Based on the college football odds, this will be a very tight, winner-take-all matchup.

Utah overcame an early scare against Utah State last week, winning 38-21 after falling behind 14-3 in the second quarter. Quarterback Isaac Wilson was able to stand tall in the pocket, as he has done all season long. Their passing game is explosive, but it is their ability to run the football that makes a real difference. Their pair of running backs in Micah Bernard and Mike Mitchell keep defenses guessing, which in turn opens up the passing game even further. The defense leaves a little to be desired, but this is a very well-rounded Utah offense.

Oklahoma State has an electric offense that will steamroll a vulnerable Utah defense. They have scored 39 or more points in each of their three games this season, moving the ball both in the air and on the ground. Quarterback Alan Bowman has enjoyed life in Oklahoma, throwing for 323 passing yards per game with 8 touchdowns this season. Wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling exploded for 174 yards last weekend and will look to make his mark against the Utah secondary.

Either of these offenses could explode for 40+ points, and neither of these defenses look capable of slowing them down. A 52 point total is quite high for a high chance matchup featuring two ranked teams, but these offenses will not be contained.

Pick: Over 52 Points -120

#6 Tennessee at #15 Oklahoma

  • Spread: Tennessee -7, Oklahoma +7
  • Moneyline: Tennessee -290, Oklahoma +205
  • Over/Under: 57.5 Points
  • Time: Saturday, September 21st, 4:00 PM EST

On Saturday night, Tennessee and Oklahoma will square off in one of the most anticipated matchups of the week. Tennessee is coming into this game as 7 point favorites on the college football point spread, and they will be confident they can continue their perfect season. This is the first real test for Tennessee, as they haven’t faced any of the ranked teams yet this season. They’ve won their three games 69-3, 51-10, and 71-0, so needless to say they know how to put up points in a hurry. Star quarterback Nico Iamaleava can not only make accurate throws down the field, but he can also get his legs involved when the pocket collapses. His ability to read the game is not often seen at the college football level, and that could give the ‘Volunteers’ an edge against Oklahoma.

For the home team, Oklahoma will need to get the crowd loud and avoid falling behind early on. The coaching staff for Oklahoma couldn’t be more confident that their team can pull off the upset, but if the crowd gets taken out of the game, this one could be over quickly. Oklahoma didn’t look very convincing in their victory over Houston and will need to tighten things up on defense against Tennessee.

This primetime matchup has the chance to be an all-time great game, but Tennessee will squash the party for Oklahoma before the game gets going. The offense seen from Tennessee so far this season has been incredible, and Oklahoma will not be able to slow them down. The 7 point spread in favor of Tennessee should be much higher, as once they build an early lead, the home field advantage for Oklahoma will evaporate.

Pick: Tennessee -7 (-125)
