Best NFL Week 16 Matchups
Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears
- Spread: Lions -7.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Lions -400/Bears +285
- Over/Under: 46.5
- Time: Sunday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. ET
Just a few weeks ago, the Chicago Bears played the Detroit Lions to the very end before disastrous coaching and game management led to an infamous ending. Though the rematch swings back to Chicago, giving the Bears home-field advantage here, this line is an insult to the Lions.
This is the best team in the NFL and a powerhouse that has made full-blown demolitions look routine. Making the mismatch even more wildly lopsided is a look at the coaches.
In Dan Campbell, Detroit has one of the league’s best head coaches and one who consistently gets every single detail correct in a game. On the other side is Thomas Brown, who has been promoted twice within the 2024 season and looked out of his depths in his coaching debut.
Ahead of Week 15, the Lions led the NFL in scoring margin at +14.1 and had won six of 12 games by double digits. The Bears, meanwhile, ranked 19th in scoring margin at -1.8 and are only saved by a defense that started brightly and has since regressed rapidly without Matt Eberflus.
Pick: Lions -7.5 (-110)

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts
- Spread: Colts -4 (-115)
- Moneyline: Titans +170/Colts -220
- Over/Under: 42.0
- Time: Sunday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. ET
While the pick of the Lions over the Bears is entirely a nod to a great team, the Indianapolis Colts at -4 is all about a terrible team. It’s tough to see the Tennessee Titans work hard yet continue to face challenges this season.
While Indianapolis tries to keep pace in a tight race for the AFC’s seventh and final playoff spot, buoyed by improving play from QB Anthony Richardson, Tennessee is seemingly worsening every week — as is its quarterback, Will Levis.
Divisional games can get a little wonky, particularly in a division like the AFC South. But that factor shouldn’t stop what is a perfectly fine Colts team exploit a downright bad Titans team. As Tennessee begins a three-game stretch through its division, it’ll get flattened by a physical Colts team.
Pick: Colts -4 (-115)
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Commanders
- Spread: Eagles -3 (-115)
- Moneyline: Eagles -175/Commanders +135
- Over/Under: 47.5
- Time: Sunday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. ET
In a fun NFC East battle between the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles and the wild card-chasing Washington Commanders, we’re flipping back to showering a great team with love.
For as poorly coached as the Eagles can be on occasion, with Nick Sirianni melting down in the moment, not infrequently, they do a great job of making things simple when they can be. Though the infamous Tush Push is the most prominent example of this, it can be extended to the running game as a whole.
When Philadelphia is in a matchup in which its incredible offensive line, Jalen Hurts, and Offensive Player of the Year candidate Saquon Barkley can dominate, it leans fully into the running game. This is a matchup to do just that.
Despite first-year head coach Dan Quinn being a defensive-minded coach and the Commanders’ defense having a pair of tough downhill linebackers in Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu, they’ve struggled mightily against the run this year.
Washington’s allowing the third-highest yards per carry in the NFL, with an average tout going for 4.8 yards against its defense, and the fifth-most yards on a per-game basis, at 137.0. Though it hasn’t been quite as damaging as some other units’ run defense, with just the 10th-worst EPA, it’s still primed for exploitation.
The Eagles, with the league’s best rushing attack and it’s best running back in Barkley, won’t need a second invitation to do just that. With such a short line, the Eagles should be able to absolutely dominate proceedings in Washington, shortening the game and covering with ease.
Pick: Eagles -3 (-115)
