Best NFL Week 17 Matchups
Broncos at Bengals
- Spread: Bengals -3.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Broncos +140/Bengals -180
- Over/Under: 49.0
- Time: Saturday, December 28 at 4:30 p.m. ET
The Broncos’ strange loss to the Chargers last Thursday, combined with the Bengals’ win on Sunday, has made the AFC playoff picture considerably more interesting. That largely is due to this looming matchup between the 9-6 Broncos and 7-8 Bengals. With a win, Cincinnati would set up a massive Week 18 finale for both teams.
In terms of this matchup, however, fireworks should be expected. The Bengals, led by MVP candidate Joe Burrow, have been an explosive offense all season, capable of scoring on anyone. They’re sixth in the league in offensive Expected Points Added and will be able to damage a strong Denver defense.
The Broncos’ offense is a positive unit in terms of EPA, and they have a friendly matchup this week. Cincinnati’s defense has been a collapsed unit all year and, with an EPA of -102.15, has been one of the most damaging units in all of football.
Expect points in Cincy this weekend.
Pick: Over 49.0

Colts at Giants
- Spread: Colts -8 (-120)
- Moneyline: Colts -425/Giants +300
- Over/Under: 40.5
- Time: Sunday, December 29 at 1:00 p.m. ET
Doing their part to further muddy the AFC playoff picture on Sunday were the Colts, whose offense and rushing attack exploded for 38 points in a win. That win kept them on the fringes of the wild card and in the hunt for a playoff spot ahead of a great matchup.
The Giants’ season has become increasingly derailed and stooped lower on Sunday. New York lost 34-7 to a Falcons team that was not only on a backslide themselves but starting rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in his first career game.
The Colts are a team that can run the ball incredibly well and manufacture offense as a result. The Giants, meanwhile, have been unable to find anything during this skid — including a starting quarterback to stay in the lineup. New York’s losing streak is now at 10 games, with its average loss coming by 13.3 during the streak.
With another fantastic chance to dominate on the ground and keep pace in a playoff race ahead of the regular season’s final week, expect the Colts to show up in a major way.
Pick: Colts -8 (-120)
Lions at 49ers
- Spread: Lions -3.5 (-120)
- Moneyline: Lions -190/49ers +145
- Over/Under: 51.5
- Time: Monday, December 30 at 8:00 p.m. ET
Yet again, we’re looking to the Detroit Lions and a disrespected powerhouse here. After another dominant, multiple-score win on Sunday, the Lions are 13-2 but need every result from here on out to guarantee the first seed and home-field advantage.
Detroit’s motivation is through the roof, and the team’s determination is unwavering, even amid recent injuries. Not only is this team first or second in nearly every offensive metric, but it’s also a team that has made blowing teams out routine. The Lions’ average scoring margin of +12.9 is atop the league and still more than 3.0 points higher than the second-place Bills.
The 49ers, meanwhile, are a broken down team who has seen their season derailed by injuries. With playoff elimination confirmed after Sunday’s results, whatever air was remaining in the San Fran balloon has been let out. With an average scoring margin of -1.2 this year, this line would already be worth looking at in the context of the Lions’ dominance.
With one team desperate for every win the rest of the way and the other absent reason to play, I’d expect the Lions to win comfortably here.
Pick: Lions -3.5 (-120)
