The Jacksonville Jaguars are the biggest favorite to keep an eye on when making your NFL week 3 preseason picks and predictions, but we will be looking at the spread in this matchup. The -7.5 point spread in favor of the Jaguars is far too many points for a preseason matchup. The Falcons may have lost their opening two preseason games, but they stayed within a seven or fewer-point margin in both defeats. Atlanta was expected to have a quality preseason option with Michael Penix Jr. under center, but he has failed to live up to expectations and will not be featured in this matchup. Instead, Taylor Heinicke will be thrown in at quarterback, an experienced NFL signal caller. The Jaguars have a strong team on both sides of the ball, but their early preseason success does not indicate their future play. Both teams have been heavily rotating their squads, and it’s surprising to see the Falcons as such large home underdogs. There will certainly be nervy moments in this one, but this is simply too many points to leave on the table. The New York Giants and New York Jets always deliver high-intensity matchups, and this meeting will be no different. Despite this being a preseason game, both teams will still be looking to punish their cross-town rivals on Saturday night. The Giants haven’t gotten inspiring play from their long-term quarterback, Daniel Jones, and Jones will be heavily featured in hopes of reigniting his promising play from last season. Meanwhile, the Jets are optimistic that Aaron Rodgers can lead them to a division title, and everyone on the field will be desperately fighting for their roster spot. The Jets have a better defense than the Giants, which will be enough to allow them to pull off the small upset here. The New York Giants are one of the franchises with the bleakest future in the entire league, and it will be only fitting to see them limp out of the preseason against their AFC rivals.

New England Patriots (-110, +1.5 Point Spread) at Washington Commanders (-125, -1.5 Point Spread) Sunday, August 25th, 8 PM EST
The New England Patriots have a pair of quarterbacks capable of getting them the victory, as Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye are both fighting for the starting job in New England. Neither man looked great in Pre Week 2, but when they evenly split the snaps this week, at least one will excel and propel them to victory. Maye is a rookie quarterback with plenty to learn from Brissett, but his pocket awareness is already developing nicely. For Brissett, he is a dual-threat passer, who can move the ball against a struggling Commanders defense. Washington already knows that Jayden Daniels will start the season and is unlikely to have a big impact in this one. A desperate pair of quarterbacks fighting for their jobs are coming up against a string of backups with no real chance to play this season. New England will find a way to get the job done.
