NFL Week 9 Predictions and Picks

Game 1: Bears at Bengals

  • Spread: Bears -2.5 (-120)
  • Moneyline: Bears -145/Bengals +105
  • Over/Under: 52.5 (-120)
  • Time: Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET

The Chicago Bears’ tour of the AFC North continues this weekend, after Caleb Williams and company lost to Snoop Huntley’s Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. To fall to a Ravens offense that has struggled so much, led by a quarterback who wasn’t even with the team to begin the year, is a damning indictment of Chicago’s offense.

Going into Cincinnati to play a Bengals offense rolling with Joe Flacco force-feeding his two excellent wide receivers, I don’t expect Williams and the Bears to be able to keep pace—regardless of the Bengals’ defensive woes.

Pick: Bengals moneyline (+105)

Game 2: Vikings at Lions

  • Spread: Lions -8.5 (-115)
  • Moneyline: Vikings +330/Lions -550
  • Over/Under: 47.5 (-115)
  • Time: Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Over the past couple of seasons, taking the favored Detroit Lions against the spread has been one of my favorite targets. The books simply can’t adjust to reflect Detroit’s ability to blow teams away offensively, especially against a team that can’t keep pace when they have the ball.

Against a Minnesota Vikings offense that has been stuck in the mud with Carson Wentz, that rings true. Should sophomore JJ McCarthy make his return under center this week, it becomes even more true. McCarthy has had one single good quarter in his brief career, and against Detroit, he’s in for four brutal quarters of football.

Pick: Lions -8.5 (-115)

Game 3: Panthers at Packers

  • Spread: Packers -12.5 (-125)
  • Moneyline: Panthers +475/Packers -1,000
  • Over/Under: 44.5 (-125)
  • Time: Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET

As evidenced by the Carolina Panthers’ brutal nine-point effort against a shaky Buffalo Bills defense last Sunday, points will be hard to come by for the Panthers so long as Andy Dalton is at the helm. And, unfortunately for Carolina, Dalton looks likely to stick for Week 9.

From the Green Bay Packers’ perspective, a matchup against the Panthers is a time to return to a run game that largely disappeared in an impressive win last week. The rushing attack is vital to Matt Lafleur’s offensive identity, and it’ll be emphasized here in a grinding win.

Pick: Under 44.5 (-125)

NFL Player Prop Predictions: Broncos at Texans

  • Spread: Broncos -0.5 (-125)
  • Moneyline: Broncos -120/Texans -115
  • Over/Under: 39.5 (-120)
  • Time: Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Though JK Dobbins continues to do his best to hold down the Denver Broncos’ backfield, rookie RJ Harvey is getting closer to taking it over. He has been electric on a per-touch basis, highlighted by a 40-yard touchdown run last week. Now, on the season, Harvey’s averaging 5.1 yards per touch—despite averaging just under 8.0 touches per game.

Against a Houston Texans defense that has been tough all year, Denver and Sean Payton are going to need to find dynamic answers. There’s no more dynamic weapon in the Broncos’ arsenal than Harvey, and just as he has in bit-part roles all year, one of the easiest NFL predictions to make is that he’ll deliver for Denver.

Pick: RJ Harvey Over 56.5 Total Yards (-115)110

NFL Score Predictions: Falcons at Patriots

  • Spread: Patriots -5.5 (-120)
  • Moneyline: Falcons +180/Patriots -260
  • Over/Under: 45.5 (-120)
  • Time: Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Kirk Cousins’ return under center couldn’t have gone much worse for the Atlanta Falcons last weekend. Cousins and the Falcons mustered just 10 points against an awful Miami Dolphins team, including just three points through the first three quarters. Now, they will hit the road after being embarrassed at home—to face a tough New England Patriots team.

Whether Cousins gets a second consecutive start or Michael Penix Jr. returns from injury, I fully expect another lethargic offensive showing from Atlanta.

Pick: Falcons Under 2.5 Total Touchdowns (-125)

NFL Moneyline Predictions: 49ers at Giants

  • Spread: 49ers -2.5 (-105)
  • Moneyline: 49ers -160/Giants +115
  • Over/Under: 48.5 (-120)
  • Time: Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Mac Jones was handed just his second loss as the San Francisco 49ers starter last week, as he was harassed and hurried by the Texans defense. Now, whether it’s Jones or Brock Purdy, the Niners get a kind rebound spot against a New York Giants team that received a gut punch on Sunday through rookie Cam Skattebo’s likely season ending injury.

While San Francisco has to make the cross-country trip, this line is still far too short. New York has been feisty, but still far from good. The 49ers, meanwhile, are a veteran team doing all it can to keep pace in a tight division. After a loss last week, don’t count on San Francisco tripping up in consecutive weeks.

Pick: 49ers moneyline (-160)

NFL Against the Spread Predictions: Colts at Steelers

  • Spread: Colts -3.5 (-120)
  • Moneyline: Colts -175/Steelers +125
  • Over/Under: 49.5 (-120)
  • Time: Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET

The Indianapolis Colts’ season of dreams continued last week, with running back Jonathan Taylor continuing his incredible season as the Colts steamrolled the Tennessee Titans. While Indianapolis has a much tougher test ahead, on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers, it’s not a tough test for the league’s most efficient offense.

Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers may hang around for a bit, but Indy’s offense is just far too relentless in its ability to score at will. Give the Colts a stop or two on offense, and NFL odds are that there’s just no keeping up with Daniel Jones and the Indy offense.

Pick: Colts -3.5 (-105)
