There is no underplaying the significance of this college football showdown this weekend. The 6th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers hit the road to take on the 11th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs lost their second game of the season last week against Ole Miss, and a loss to Tennessee would send the 2021 and 2022 champions out of the 12-team college football playoffs. While Tennessee may be ranked higher, the margin for error is still minuscule for the Volunteers. Tennessee lost to Arkansas last month, but four straight wins, including one over Alabama, have them in the thick of the playoff race. A defeat would leave them with little to no chance of postseason qualification.
This has the potential to be the game of the season in terms of what it means for both teams, but don’t expect the points to be flying onto the board this weekend. The NCAAF odds have the total at just 48.5 points, as both of these teams rely on their defense to succeed. Tennessee hasn’t allowed 20 or more points yet this season, and they will be tested against a motivated Carson Beck.
