NFL Week 2 Odds Analysis

NFL Preseason Predictions Week 2

Cleveland Browns (+210, +6.5 Point Spread) vs Carolina Panthers (-325, -6.5 Point Spread) Friday, August 8th, 7 PM EST

This would be one of the worst NFL matchups in the regular season, but it will be one of the best matchups for your NFL preseason predictions this week. Shedeur Sanders will get the start for the Browns, and this is a crucial point in his NFL career. Sanders suffered a historic draft slide to start his career and isn’t expected to start for the Browns in the regular season. Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel are all ahead of him on the depth chart.

While Sanders may not be NFL-ready, the reality of the Browns’ quarterback situation is that they have incredible depth. The Panthers will use their opening preseason game to give someone like QB3 Jack Plummer some reps. The Browns have four quarterbacks better than Plummer, and that will give them a serious edge in this matchup, regardless of who is in the pocket. Cleveland has a slightly deeper set of linemen, too, which can often be the deciding factor in preseason NFL games. The NFL odds favor the Panthers, but they are incorrectly under the impression that Bryce Young or Andy Dalton will play more than the first quarter. This is a very generous spread, and is by far the best preseason pick to make on your free sportsbook

Prediction: Cleveland Browns to cover the +6.5 point spread (-120)

New York Giants (-135) vs Buffalo Bills (-105) Saturday, August 9th, 1 PM EST

The New York Giants are favorites over the Buffalo Bills to kick off both of their preseasons, as the Giants’ quarterbacks give them an edge on the NFL odds. Similar to the Cleveland Browns, the Giants have three solid quarterbacks with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart. Meanwhile, the Bills lack quarterback depth outside of Josh Allen, but the 2024 MVP is unlikely to suit up in the preseason opener.

The Bills are Super Bowl contenders, while the Giants will be looking forward to the draft next season; all that changes without Allen in the pocket. New York has a strong offensive line to protect Russell Wilson, and the Bills will also be without James Cook due to ongoing contract disputes. The receiving depth for the Giants certainly isn’t there, but they still deserve to be a bigger favorite on the NFL odds with the other offensive advantages. Additionally, teams with little-to-no regular season aspirations often end up fighting harder in the preseason, and that could be the case for the Giants against the Bills. No matter how you slice it, the Giants should win this one more often than not, and taking the moneyline odds on your free sportsbook is a great NFL preseason prediction for week 1

Prediction: New York Giants Moneyline (-135)

Washington Commanders (+160, +4.5 Point Spread) vs New England Patriots (-240, -6.5 Point Spread) Friday, August 8th, 7:30 PM EST

The Washington Commanders and New England Patriots have been heavily linked with one another this offseason, as the Patriots appear to be Terry McLaurin’s most likely destination if he were to leave Washington. The star wide receiver is unlikely to suit up this week in the preseason, and these two teams had a joint practice on Wednesday in preparation for this one. New England will likely see more of Jayden Daniels in that practice session than they will in this game, but Washington is still being disrespected with these NFL odds.

The Commanders have an advantage in nearly every position on offense, and even their backups and third-stringers will still be able to dominate. The Patriots don’t have the quarterback depth outside of Drake Maye on their roster either, as both Joshua Dobbs and Ben Woolridge are two of the worst QB2s and QB3s in the NFL. The fact that these two teams will be familiar with one another after their Wednesday session will only play into the hands of Washington, as the NFC finalists look to avoid a sophomore slump from Jayden Daniels. The point spread and moneyline odds are both tempting options for this matchup, but the best way to take advantage of the American football odds is with the +160 moneyline. Washington is the better, deeper team, and as long as they take this one semi-seriously, it will be their game to lose.

Prediction: Washington Commanders Moneyline +160
