College Football Week 8 Odds Analysis
(No. 20) USC at (No. 13) Notre Dame
- Spread: Notre Dame -8.5 (-115)
- Moneyline: USC +220/Notre Dame -350
- Over/Under: 61.5 (-120)
- Time: Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET
In a meeting of two iconic programs in a classic rivalry game, the Fighting Irish are giving 8.5 points on the backs of home-field advantage. But, despite the Trojans travelling, it could be a hair too much.
USC has been strong this year, dominating in games it should and putting together quality wins over both Michigan State and Michigan. Crucially, too, is that the Trojans hung around on the road against Illinois—their ability to control the football and keep games close bodes well with a line over a touchdown. The Irish should win on Saturday, but by just one score.
Pick: USC +8.5 (-115)

(No. 10) LSU at (No. 17) Vanderbilt
- Spread: Vanderbilt -2.5 (-130)
- Moneyline: LSU +110/Vanderbilt -160
- Over/Under: 49.5 (-115)
- Time: Saturday, October 18 at 12:00 p.m. ET
The remarkable rise of Vanderbilt football continues, as SEC powerhouse LSU heads to Nashville as an underdog against the conference’s traditional bottom-feeder. This is setting up to be one of the biggest days in recent memory for Vandy’s program, and like last year’s amazing scenes against Alabama, I expect it to deliver.
For your NCAAF prediction, the Tigers will surely keep things close in Nashville, but with Vandy giving up less than a field goal here, I like the home squad to cover a modest line.
Pick: Vanderbilt -2.5 (-130)
(No. 1) Ohio State at (NR) Wisconsin
- Spread: Ohio State -27.5 (-120)
- Moneyline: Ohio State OTB/Wisconsin +900
- Over/Under: 41.5 (-120)
- Time: Saturday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m. ET
The No. 1 team in the nation, I expect Ohio State to go into Madison and steamroll the Badgers. But, with a 27.5-point line and a total of just 41.5 on the board here, some strategy is required. Well, strategy and a near shutout for the Buckeyes’ defense.
The Badgers’ offense can tend to be lethargic, but a Saturday afternoon game against the defending national champions is the kind of spot that will have Camp Randall Stadium alive. With a rabid stadium of Badgers fans behind it, I expect Wisconsin to muster enough offense to cover a nearly four-touchdown spread for a moral victory in what will be a blowout loss.
Pick: Wisconsin +27.5 (-120)
